1965 comes to the southbank this saturday (hurrah)
The duo are pumped! This saturday evening we will be heading to see Anne Collard’s re make of Anna Halprin’s famous parades & changes (1965). For the first time this piece will be brought back to life. A practitioner at the centre of 20th-century American dance history, Anna Halprin forged a radical way of conceiving choreography. Her vision is still influential today - notably her introduction of physical tasks as a basis for improvisation, the use of pedestrian everyday movements, and her strong belief in collaborating with other disciplines and art forms.
parades and changes (1965) is Halprin’s first ‘collective creation’ with electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick. Her most famous piece, it was banned in the United States for 20 years because of its nude scenes.
